Ode To Emily
I

You intoxicate with sips
Of your lone drawn liquor -
But who understood the lips
Of the New English Brewer?
II
Calling herself Immortality -
She took me by the hand
And placed - within - a pen:
Beckoned me to write for Her -
I saw her smile - recognised -
This face that you have faced -
Yet could not drop the pen.
An infant’s grasp is all compulsion.
III
Let the Species perish -
Let it end - where it began -
With you.
Let you be the single breed -
Be rapturous - with mutant status -
Fossilised -
Yet - your odd muse edges on -
DARING was your precipice -
SURPRISE was your key.
As one possessed, I cannot shake
What chills me so -
IV
As possible ally
With my borrowed gait
The Fraudian charge
Of Imitate -
As to censure
A Steal - of Spark -
To kindle my own
Taper Truth -
As possible apply
Sordid label for
Having - possessed -
Of Predecessor -
As to censure
Heritage of Wing
To see - ownself -
The Scape from height -
As possible this regret
As to regret
Eden’s guests - or
Prometheus -
As possible today condemn -
For whethering - as
Yesterday -
